Before Starfield issues a digital SSL certificate, the submitted information requestor information undergoes a rigorous authentication procedure that verifies that the certificate requestor controls the domain in the request and, in the case of High Assurance Web Server Certificates, that the existence and identity of the requesting entity can be verified through trusted sources. Only through thorough validation of submitted data can the online customer rest assured that online businesses that display SSL certificates indeed are to be trusted.
Validation is an integral element of Starfield Technologies' SSL Certificate services.
The validation process ensures the highest level of trust. Starfield Web Server Certificates are only issued to entities whose credentials have been thoroughly authenticated. T
Depending on the chosen certificate type, the "Organization" field of a Starfield SSL certificate contains:
- High Assurance Web Server Certificate — Corporate Certificate: The name of an organization that can be confirmed as registered with a government authority.
- High Assurance Web Server Certificate ̵ Small Business/Sole Proprietor Certificate: The name of the individual requesting the certificate, if the organization name cannot be authenticated (using a third-party data source).
- Medium Assurance Web Server Certificate: The common name of the Web site for which the certificate was requested. The common name is defined in the Certificate Signing Request (CSR)
Thus, a Starfield SSL Certificate guarantees that the entity to which the certificate is issued is who it claims to be, and that it has a legal right to use the domain from which it operates.
